K.P. Martin Vineyards – Snake River Valley, Idaho
Our neighbors and friends, Keith and Pearl Martin, planted a small vineyard in 2012 on the slope east of our patio. Dr. Ron Bitner encouraged them to set aside a section for Cabernet Franc, which was rarely cultivated in Idaho. They planted 270 vines in untrellised “goblet style”, which produces smaller clusters and lower yield, resulting in more intense flavors.
Our third vintage of Cabernet Franc features aromas of red plum that lend to noble tannins and complexity. The result is bliss: cassis, spiced chocolate, roasted pepper, and a toasted caramel finish. Leave you wanting more; unfortunately there is not much to share - again.
This wine’s fine grained tannins and lush earth tones show very well with beef stew, butternut squash ravioli with sage and toasted pine nuts, and berry cobbler.
